Frank Field
promise would be reached over the amendment, the PMS said that people should speak to the Treasury for a readout of Frank Field s meeting with the Chancellor. As the PMS had said this morning, the Government believed that the measures we had put in place were the best and most affordable way to provide support now to low and middle- income households.
Asked if the Chancellor had spoken to the Prime Minister about the Frank Field amendment, the PMS replied that the Prime Minister and the Chancellor spoke frequently and the Chancellor was present at Cabinet this morning.
Asked if it was correct that if New Clause One was to be passed, it could put the whole Budget in jeopardy, the PMS said that for the technicalities of the Bill, people should speak to the Treasury. We had set our position several times on where we were on lower and middle-income families and the impact of the changes we had made in the PBR and in the Budget.
