Cabinet

The Prime Minister s Spokesman began by telling the assembled journalists about Cabinet; there was a presentation from the Chancellor on the economy and a presentation from Defence Secretary Bob Ainsworth on Afghanistan.

Asked if they discussed the Finance Bill at Cabinet, the PMS said that there was a regular discussion of Parliamentary business, at the start of Cabinet and the Finance Bill came up as part of that.

Asked if the Treasury s Financial Services Paper had been discussed at Cabinet, the PMS said no; the Chancellor gave an update on trends in the economy.

Asked what Bob Ainsworth said about Afghanistan, the PMS said that, in general terms, Bob Ainsworth set out the political and military position on the ground, as well as the nature of our engagement and how we were working closely with the US troops on the ground in Helmand, particularly in the run up to elections.
