Misc

Asked how the Prime Minister felt about the Foreign Secretary s speech, the PMS said that that was not a question for him.

Put that the Defence Secretary had conceded that a new inquiry might be necessary into allegations of mistreatment and torture of Iraqis by British troops, the PMS said that he had nothing to say on the issue at the moment, which remained the subject of an ongoing review by the High Court.

Asked for any comment on the fact that the Serious Fraud Squad had been called into investigate the collapse of MG Rover, the PMS said that as people would be aware, Lord Mandelson had issued a statement this morning on the subject and he had nothing to add to that.

Asked what the Prime Minister thought about the Foreign Secretary s views on Facebook, the PMS said that the Prime Minister would share the Foreign Secretary s views.

Asked if there was any news on Sir Alan Sugar s peerage, the PMS said not as far as he was aware. If there were any further announcements they would be made in the usual way. Asked if it was still the intention that he would become the Government s Enterprise adviser, the PMS said that it was.
