Asked about the immigration announcement at the UK-French Summit today, the Prime Minister s Spokesman (PMS) said that a declaration was announced on bilateral cooperation between the British and French Governments on tackling illegal cross-border immigration, principally around the northern French ports. The 15 million that was announced today was to pilot new technology to enhance border checks, and in return the French would conduct more removal flights.
Asked where the new money came from, the PMS said that it was from existing Home Office budgets; for detail it was best to speak to the department. The money would enable more detailed searches of vehicles and goods, and the Border Agency would roll out the latest protection in Boulogne, Dunkirk and Couquelles.
