Pensions
« Iraq Inquiry | Back to most recent briefing | Governor of the Bank of England »
Asked if the Prime Minister was relieved that MPs would not vote on their pension contributions, the PMS said that people were often left with the impression that the Government was forcing through issues such as this due to the fact that it was only the Government that could table motions in Parliament. The role of the Government in matters relating to House business was to facilitate the will of the House and that was what we were doing on this occasion.
Put that the gap in the MPs pension fund had to be filled somehow, the PMS said that the numbers had to add up but it would be up to Parliament to decide how best to deal with that.
