Asked for the Government s reaction to Mervyn King s comments that more needed to be done to address the deficit, the PMS said that Mervyn King was still giving his evidence to the Select Committee and he did not intend to respond to the evidence while it was still going on.
The PMS added that we had taken action to address the deficit and he couldn t think of any other country in the world that had set out specific future plans in order to demonstrate how the deficit was being reduced.
