Asked when the inquiry would start and whether or not it would be held in public or private, the Prime Minister s Spokesman said that that was a matter for Sir John Chilcot to consider, and when he was in a position to respond he would do so. Asked if Sir John Chilcot would be replying to the Prime Minister s letter, the PMS said that the timing of any letter was a matter for Sir John Chilcot. Asked if the Prime Minister and David Cameron were meeting Sir John Chilcot tomorrow, the PMS said that the Prime Minister was not attending a meeting with Sir John Chilcot and Mr Cameron tomorrow, but to our knowledge Sir John Chilcot would be consulting opposition parties in the run up to the inquiry. Asked if the Prime Minister had been in direct communication with Tony Blair about the Iraq inquiry, the PMS said that we consulted a number of people ahead of our announcement and the Prime Minister took full responsibility for the announcements that the Government made. Asked if Tony Blair had initiated contact with the Prime Minister about the Iraq inquiry, the PMS said that we had had a number of consultations ahead of the announcement but we would not get into specifics. Asked who the Prime Minister had consulted in the army about the Iraq inquiry, the PMS said that the Chief of Defence Staff was fully consulted and agreed to the announcement that we made last Monday.
