Asked whether the Prime Minister s statement to the House of Commons on Iraq would set out the terms of reference of an inquiry, the Prime Minister s Spokesman (PMS) told the assembled press that the statement would be on the end of the UK s military mission in Iraq and an inquiry into the conflict. Asked about details of the inquiry, the PMS said that further details would have to wait until the Prime Minister s statement.
Asked why the statement was being made now, the PMS said that the statement was expected when the UK s combat role in Iraq had concluded, and the last combat mission was on 30 April. He added that the Government expected troop removal to be complete by 31 July.
