Shahid Malik
« Cabinet | Back to most recent briefing | Lord Carter »
Asked if the Prime Minister saw any need for Shahid Malik s affairs to be referred to the Permanent Secretary of his department, the PMS said that there had been two issues in relation to Shahid Malik. Firstly there had been questions raised by The Telegraph in relation to his MP expenses, which would be covered by the House of Commons Authorities independent review of expenses. Secondly there was the accusation that he was in breach of the Ministerial Code, which arose from the allegation that he received a preferential rate for rent, and this was covered by Sir Philip Mawer s report. To our knowledge there were no other allegations suggesting he had breached the Ministerial Code.
Asked if the Prime Minister believed in general terms that as much information as possible should be published on MPs expenses subject to security considerations, the PMS said yes.
Asked if that applied to Shahid Malik, the PMS said that it applied to all MPs.
Asked if the Prime Minister had full confidence in Shahid Malik, the PMS said yes.
