Asked about the agenda for Friday s Cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister s Spokesman (PMS) told the assembled press that Cabinet would meet for three hours. This would be an opportunity to take stock of the next steps on the Government s domestic policy agenda, in particular in relation to public services in light of the new challenges being faced.

The meeting would prepare for the draft legislative programme, to be published over the next few weeks, as well as for the related policy initiatives that would flow from it.

Asked whether the proposals would relate to departmental spending, the PMS said that departmental budgets were already set to 2010-2011 as part of the Spending Review.

Asked whether there would be a Spending Review ahead of the next General Election, the PMS said that that was a matter for the Treasury. In answer to further questions, the PMS said that the last spending review was announced for the year starting April 2008 in October 2007.
