Asked about the letter that the Prime Minister was sending out to EU partners, the PMS said that the letter would emphasise the importance of Europe remaining outward looking. It would also say that we continued to reject protectionism and would continue to push ahead with the completion of the single market.

Asked if there were any concerns about the way the French had been acting, the PMS said that this was not about any individual country; we wanted to ensure that Europe remained outward looking and that we continued to push ahead with the single market.
