Asked why there had been a delay in the Prime Minister s idea of constitutional reform, the PMS said that there hadn t been a delay; the Prime Minister identified this as an important issue early on in his premiership and we were taking significant action in order to ensure that the executive was better held to account by Parliament. We were removing powers from the executive and increasing powers of Parliament, but we needed to do more, particularly to make Parliament more accountable, and that was the stage we were moving into now.
Asked if the Prime Minister had said this morning that he was interested in strengthening Freedom of Information powers, the PMS said yes.
Asked about the situation regarding D-Day commemorations, the PMS said that there had been a statement from the Palace last week that said they had never expressed any sense of anger or frustration and were content with all the planned arrangements.
