Put that Lord Mandelson had said that the Bank of England and the Treasury had not acted quickly enough to help the car industry, the PMS said that Lord Mandelson had made clear that discussions were making progress on this front and we recognised the urgency needed. There would be further discussions between the Treasury and the Bank of England.

Asked if the Prime Minister had a red nose for Red Nose Day, the PMS said that there would be things done in Downing Street to mark Red Nose Day.

Asked for the Prime Minister s reaction to the FT story that there was a split between the Prime Minister and the Chancellor over the Budget, the PMS said that we did not agree with that interpretation of the FT story.

Asked about the FOI request relating to the Iraq war, the PMS said that there had been an outstanding FOI request which the Cabinet Office was releasing today. There were a number of documents relating to the 2002 dossier, which were all submitted to the Butler enquiry, although not all of them would have necessarily been made public by Butler.

Asked if there would be an exemption of the no smoking ban at the G20 Summit, the PMS said that a decision on a smoking ban would be for the organisers of the event since they were the people responsible for enforcing regulations at their venue.
