Asked what the Chancellor would be talking about in his speech, the PMS said the purpose of the speech was to set out the Government s position on a range of global economy issues ahead of the G20 Finance Ministers meeting later this week.
Asked whether off-shore tax havens had anything to worry about, the PMS said that he would not get into the specifics of this and people should speak to the Treasury on specific questions. We were clear that part of the reform agenda for the global economy was to bring in these off-shore centres into the global financial regulatory architecture as much as possible.
