Misc

Asked if there was any room for compromise regarding the Postal Services Bill, the PMS said that the Government had set out its position clearly; we were taking the legislation through the House and Lord Mandelson would make his statement in the House of Lords at 3pm this afternoon.

Asked if the 6 month course for teachers would be ready by this autumn, the PMS said that it was due to come on line later this year, but it was best to check with the department for details.

Asked what the Prime Minister would discuss with Angela Merkel at their meeting, the PMS said that they would discuss a range of issues, but would focus on global and macro-economic matters.
