PMQ’s

Asked if the Prime Minister thought we were in a depression, the PMS said that the Prime Minister didn t believe that. Asked why he had said that in PMQ s, the PMS said that it was not the Prime Minister s intention going into PMQ s to describe the current global situation by using that word. Put that it was a slip of the tongue, the PMS said that that was not a phrase that he would use. The Prime Minister did not believe that we were in a global depression; he thought that this was a very difficult global economic situation and we were certainly in a global financial recession.

Asked if the Government had a view on what a global depression would look like, the PMS suggested that the journalist speak to one of the many economists that he was sure the journalist spoke to on a regular basis.

Put that the Prime Minister had made a mistake, the PMS said that he didn t think anybody had noticed what the Prime Minister had said at the time of him saying it with the exception of the Political Editor of the BBC. The Prime Minister was focussing on some of the bigger issues facing the country like how we dealt with the difficult global financial recession that we faced at the moment.

Asked about a tax evasion question the Prime Minister was asked by Nick Clegg, the PMS said he would check on that.
