Premier Wen

Asked what agreements or results the Prime Minister was expecting to get out of his meeting with Premier Wen next week, the PMS replied that there were a variety of issues on the agenda with Premier Wen and with the team that was coming over for discussions with the Prime Minister and other Ministers. Obviously this included the work that we were doing and the discussions we were having in the lead up to the London Summit in April. Also, as the Prime Minister was making clear in Davos earlier today, associated with that, we were having talks ahead of the Copenhagen meeting later in the year to ensure that an economic recovery is based on low carbon principles, and the Chinese were clearly key players on this. There were obviously a variety of bilateral business discussions that would happen, partly taking place at the Business Summit. We would also be talking to them about foreign policy issues including for example Iran and Burma. There were also other items on the agenda as well including cultural exchanges.
