Asked for a readout of the Prime Minister s meeting with President Sarkozy, the PMS replied that as anticipated, the meeting was principally on the global economy. The Prime Minister had said this morning that what we had been trying to do in the last few months was to approach the global economic situation in a coherent and coordinated way and that we had approached this by re-capitalising the banks in all parts of the world. We had also seen concerted action on fiscal stimulus, which we had seen announced in Germany over the last few days. The third challenge now was to re-open global financial markets so that businesses, especially larger multi-national businesses could have the resources and the investment that they needed.
