Asked about the Prime Minister s discussion with Prime Minister Olmert of Israel, and asked if any incentive was offered, the PMS replied that we continued to engage with all of the senior leaders in the region. The Prime Minister did speak to Prime Minister Olmert yesterday, he also spoke to President Mubarek of Egypt yesterday evening, and he had spoken to President Abbas just this morning. As we said in our statement last night, we continued to urge the Israeli Government to fully respect their international humanitarian commitments, and we also called on Arab leaders to say more clearly that Hamas must disarm. There was a UN Security Council Resolution 1860 agreed last week, which we supported and voted for, and we did think that that formed the basis of a sustainable ceasefire. Our focus remained on the practical measures around dealing with issues such as arms trafficking into Gaza, dealing with the borders, dealing with humanitarian supplies, which we believed could form the basis of a ceasefire. Asked specifically what was discussed with President Abbas, and were we at a stage to discuss what would happen post-conflict, the PMS replied that these were issues that we had been discussing with our partners for some time. There were issues in relation to humanitarian support, and there were also issues in relation to the borders and how we keep them open and policing the borders.
