OECD Figures

Asked whether the Prime Minister was concerned with the OECD figures released today, the PMS said that we had a competitive market for energy in the UK and the recent estimates had shown that domestic gas and electricity prices in the UK were below the EU average. Asked if the Prime Minister was concerned about how much they had increased, the PMS said that if there were any competition issues or any suggestion that energy companies were taking advantage of their customers, then we would not hesitate in taking action just as we had done in relation to pre-payment meters.

As far as the Government was aware, there was no evidence to suggest that companies were cross-subsidising between retail businesses in different countries.
