Economy-Businesses

Asked for the Government s view on allowing businesses to defer VAT purchases for 6 months, the PMS said that he would not comment on proposals that had been made by the opposition. Yvette Cooper had been out this morning responding to that so it was best to refer to her comments.

Asked if the Government would encourage larger businesses, as well as smaller ones, to pay their bills in a timely fashion, the PMS said that the Government would encourage everybody in the economy to settle bills in a timely fashion, particularly in a way that eased cash flow to small businesses. It was anticipated that the Secretary of State for Business would make further announcements on this over the coming period.
