Prime Minister Berlusconi

Asked what the agenda was for the meeting between the Prime Minister and Prime Minister Berlusconi, the PMS said it would be quite a wide-ranging meeting and probably quite informal. No doubt they would be discussing what was happening in the European economy and the global economy. They were also likely to discuss energy and how we can move towards reducing our dependency on oil, including by working more closely together on nuclear energy programmes. They would also discuss Russian military action in Georgia and the situation in Iran. Asked if Italy remained a valuable ally, the PMS said it did.
Asked whether the Prime Minister and Prime Minister Berlusconi would be discussing whether Russia should remain in the G7, the PMS replied that he was not sure that that had specifically been proposed but there would be a general discussion about Russia.
