Asked about the Baker Review on MP’s pay and whether it could be expected soon, the PMS said he did not know but he would check.
Asked if the Prime Minister would be taking David Cameron’s advice by going on holiday, the PMS said that on that matter the Prime Minister took his responsibilities as Prime Minister very seriously and was committed to working hard on behalf of the people of this country. The Prime Minister also took his responsibilities as a father very seriously and tried to manage the two, as did millions of fathers and parents in the country.
Asked if the Prime Minister would be speaking to King Abdullah today, the PMS said that the Prime Minister was expected to speak to King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia today. One of the things they would want to discuss which we welcomed, was the announcement by Saudi Arabia yesterday, calling for a meeting of oil producing and oil consuming nations which echoed what the British Government had been calling for, for some time.
Asked about the working time directive, the PMS said that we were very happy with the outcome of the agreement that John Hutton had worked very hard to negotiate in Luxembourg in the last 24 hours or so.
