Asked if there was still some way to go in convincing MPs to vote in favour of 42 days, the PMS said that this vote remained very tight.
Asked if the Prime Minister would vote, the PMS said that the Prime Minister would be voting on Wednesday.
Put that it was in the Government’s interest to promote the concept of a very close vote, the PMS said that journalists could interpret what he was saying in whatever way they liked; he was just stating the reality.

Brown’s arm twisting and bribery disgusts me. He is using this issue to keep himself in a job, when the fact is that the issue is bigger than any government: it is about *our* fundamental civil liberties. If Brown really was a “conviction” politician and really believed in the issue then he would permit a free vote and leave MPs to vote according to their principles, and not his own fear.
