OPEC

Asked if the Prime Minister thought we should "put a blowtorch" to OPEC, the PMS replied that the Prime Minister had made clear that obviously we would expect the oil producing countries to do more, but that we also needed a comprehensive and long term approach to the issues facing the oil market. That meant taking action in relation to the demand side as well.

Asked if the Prime Minister found Kevin Rudd’s comments helpful, the PMS replied that the Prime Minister had used pretty strong language himself in relation to OPEC from time to time.
