Flexible Working
« Pre-Charge Detention | Back to most recent briefing | Miscellaneous »
Asked about the Working Time Directive currently being discussed in Brussels and suggestions that a clause will be introduced to give everybody the right to demand flexible working, the Prime Minister’s Spokesman (PMS) replied that our position on flexible working had been set out very clearly by the Government in recent weeks. The right to flexible working had operated successfully in the UK because we had been able to prioritise those who needed it the most – parents of children up to the age of 16, and carers.
Asked if we were confident of an agreement, the PMS replied that it was best to wait and see how things progressed in Brussels.
