Alex Salmond’s Letter

Asked whether Downing Street had received the letter from Alex Salmond that had appeared in some Sunday newspapers, the PMS said that he could confirm that we had received a letter of today’s date. He added that as far as we were concerned, we had no intention of putting it into the public domain so it was a private letter.

Asked if Downing Street had responded to it, the PMS said that it would have to be looked at and we would then consider what response there would be. It was a letter on a subject that related to the letter that appeared to have been given to some of the Sunday newspapers of a previous day’s date, which we did not appear to have received. Put that it was not necessarily the same letter, the PMS reiterated that it was a letter on a similar subject, but it did not appear to be exactly the same letter as people had read about in the Sunday newspapers.
