Asked about comments this morning that there were "no-go areas" in prisons in Britain where inmates were basically in control, the PMS replied that the Prison Officers Association had responded in their way, but the Ministry of Justice had issued a response saying that it was simply not true that there were areas of prisons that were no-go areas for staff. Prisoners did try to escape, but the Prison Service had an excellent record of preventing such escapes, and prisons had been stable for over 10 years - an excellent record that all prison staff should be proud of.
