Sarkozy Visits

Asked when President Sarkozy would be addressing both Houses, the PMS said it would be 4pm. Asked if the Prime Minister agreed with the President that we should be working together with the US to push the value of the Dollar back up, the PMS replied that we would not comment on exchange rate matters.

Asked if the Prime Minister agreed with President Sarkozy that the option of boycotting the Beijing Olympics should be kept on the table, the PMS said that the Prime Minister agreed with President Sarkozy that we did need to take the issue of Tibet very seriously. This was why the Prime Minister had been speaking directly to the Chinese Premier about the subject. The Government’s position on the Olympics however, was well known.

Asked if the Prime Minister had spoken to Premier Wen since last Wednesday, the PMS said that that was the last time they had spoken.

Asked whether the Prime Minister owned a BlackBerry or a pair of Ray-Bans, the PMS said he could testify that the Prime Minister owned a mobile phone and had all the technology he needed in order to conduct his work. Asked again about Ray-Bans, the PMS replied that he had never seen the Prime Minister wearing a pair.
