Asked whether the Prime Minister had read Charles Clarke’s latest article, the PMS said he did not think the Prime Minister had had an opportunity to read it yet.
Put that there was a suggestion that the second reading of the Terrorism Bill was being delayed, the PMS said that he was not in a position to give people a date for the second reading.
Asked if the Government felt it had not got enough support for the bill and was delaying it for that reason, the PMS replied that what we were talking about was the second reading, rather than any subsequent individual clauses. These were matters for the business managers who would have to look at the constraints of the parliamentary timetable when making any decision on the timing of the introduction of any bills.
