Iraq

Asked if the Government would be marking the fifth anniversary of the war in Iraq, the Prime Minister’s Spokesman (PMS) told the assembled press that the Government had no specific plans to do so, although he was sure that the Prime Minister would mention the situation in Iraq among other things, in his statement to the House at 1230.
Asked what the Government’s thinking was behind not marking the anniversary when it had instigated a campaign to get more respect and attention paid to the armed forces, the PMS replied that the Prime Minister’s view was that the armed forces were doing an excellent job and that was something the Prime Minister would be prepared to say on any particular day.
