Asked if the Prime Minister was newly converted to the possibility of giving more powers to the Scottish Parliament, especially on taxation, the PMS replied that the Prime Minister set out his position on that in an interview at the weekend. There was a review that the Scottish Parliament was taking forward, and the Government’s position in relation to that review was set out in a Lords’ Parliamentary Question that we answered on the 31st January.
Asked if the Prime Minister would be taking a personal interest in the running of the Commission, the PMS replied that that this was obviously an issue taken forward in Scotland, and within the Scottish Parliament, and taken forward by the various political parties in Scotland. As we said in the PQ we answered on the 31st January, the Scottish Parliament had asked for the engagement of the UK Government in this review, and we were happy to work with them
Asked how the UK Government would be getting involved in this, the PMS replied that we had a Secretary of State for Scotland.
