The Prime Minister’s Spokesman (PMS) began by telling the assembled press that Defra had announced that Adair Turner had been appointed as the Chair of the Climate Change Committee. The PMS added that the Committee was established as part of the Climate Change Bill, in order to independently assess how the UK could optimally achieve its emissions reduction goals for the period 2020 and 2050. I very much hope that Mr.Turner will bring some radical thinking to such a pressing issue. I’ve worked in the Construction Industry for 40+ years and am continuously shocked at the sheer irresponsibility of our planning and building practices.
The quite recent introduction of Eco-Homes & Sustainable Homes Codes are a step in the right direction—but too timid and not getting to grips with the huge opportunities that are available for the taking—with determination and imagination.
I shall be delighted to make a contribution—from the ‘coalface’!.
