UN Envoy to Afghanistan

Asked about the UN envoy to Afghanistan, the PMS replied that these were matters for the UN Secretary General; this was ultimately his appointment. We thought that Lord Ashdown would have been a good candidate but he had withdrawn his candidature. We were not going to speculate further on future alternative candidates we might support.
