Schools Bill
« MP’s Pay | Back to most recent briefing | Offender Management Scheme »
Asked about the Schools Bill and the idea that teachers would be asked not to push A Levels, the PMS replied that the second reading debate was taking place at the moment. DCSF were making clear that the clause in the Bill was not about promoting one form of qualification over another, it was about ensuring that pupils had the best possible information available on all the available options.
Asked if it was found that teachers were promoting A Levels and neglecting diplomas, would we be cross, the PMS replied that as he had said, the objective of the clause in the Bill was to make sure that pupils had all of the available information about all of the options. And it was then up to the individual pupils to make their own choices, obviously in discussion with their parents and teachers.
