» Wednesday, January 9, 2008Hospital Deep Cleaning
Put that Alan Johnson had said that the deep cleaning of hospitals was a gesture rather than something that was effective against superbugs such as MRSA and in view of that, was it still the Government’s intention to press on with what seemed to be a rather costly gesture, the PMS replied that he was not sure that was exactly how the Government would characterise the policy. Of course it was the Government’s intention to push ahead with deep cleaning, which had been welcomed by the Chief Medical Officer and the Chief Nursing Officer. This was an integral part of the Government’s strategy of improving cleanliness in hospitals. Asked if the Prime Minister agreed that cleanliness was good in it’s own right, but as far as superbugs were concerned, it was not particularly effective, the PMS replied that it was part of an overall strategy of dealing with superbugs and of course we would expect it to have an impact, which was why it was being done.
