Comprehensive Spending Review

Asked about the Culture Secretary’s visit to Battersea Arts Centre to publicise the DCMS CSR Arts settlement and whether there was any frustration that the focus had been on tax this week and not the spending being brought in by the CSR, the PMS replied that it was not particularly unusual for Secretaries of State to have meetings with stakeholders following spending review settlements. The more that people understood the settlements that were given, the better. The PMS went on to say that the PBR did a number of things. It dealt with a number of specific tax issues in an affordable way, it demonstrated how the Government could maintain its commitment to economic stability, but it also provided significant extra resources to key Government priorities.
