The Prime Minister’s Spokesman (PMS) told journalists the Prime Minister would have a meeting and a dinner with Chancellor Merkel on Monday evening.
Asked whether the visit was a snub to President Bush as the Prime Minister’s first trip was not to Washington, the PMS said journalists should not, read anything into the order of the trips, it was just down to diary and availability.
Asked what was the agenda for Berlin, the PMS said the Prime Minister had met Angela Merkel before, this would be their first meeting since the Prime Minister had become Prime Minister, it would be a very much an introductory discussion, covering among other things current EU issues, climate change and counter terrorism.
