Put that a recent report from the White House to Congress said there had been little progress in Iraq, and asked if there would be a statement soon from the Prime Minister on Britain’s position in Iraq, the PMS replied that the Prime Minister had spoken on several occasions in recent weeks on Iraq, and had made his position quite clear.
Asked that following yesterday’s meeting with the UN Secretary General, what role did we expect the UN to play on the ground in Iraq, the PMS replied that they had a good discussion yesterday, and a good discussion in relation to Iraq, but he was not aware that anything had changed in relation to the UN’s role in Iraq or its future intentions.
