Asked for any response to growing calls for a statement on super casinos, the PMS replied that as he said yesterday, we were moving into a period of reflection and review. We would need to consider the issues that the Prime Minister raised yesterday in relation to our regeneration objective. Asked about the 16 large and small casinos, and if we would be revisiting locations in terms of Manchester and Blackpool, the PMS replied that this was something that would be kept under review. But there was no question of anything changing in relation to the existing 16. Asked if the Prime Minister had seen any MPs in relation to this, the PMS replied that there had certainly been discussions with representatives from Manchester. Asked if this include MPs, the PMS replied that there would have been discussions with Members of Parliament. Asked if these discussions were post his comments yesterday, the PMS replied that they were subsequent to the Prime Minister’s comments. Asked how the discussions went, the PMS replied that we would not normally comment on individual discussions. Asked if the plan was to go ahead with the 16, the PMS replied that no one was suggesting changing the locations of the 16. Asked if the Prime Minister was confident that regeneration would be brought to these 16 locations, the PMS replied that the Prime Minister was happy with policy in relation to the 16 locations. Put that Manchester MPs wanted a formal meeting with the Prime Minister, and asked if he would be prepared to meet with them, the PMS replied that there had been discussions with representatives from Manchester, but all of these things would be kept under review.
