Asked if the Prime Minister had had an audience with The Queen this week, the PMOS confirmed that he had. Asked if there would be anything arranged with The Queen as part of his farewell tour to say goodbye, the PMOS said that he did not recognise the phrase "farewell tour". The Prime Minister saw The Queen on a regular basis, and as people knew, we did not discuss what they discussed. Asked if the Prime Minister was going to visit the Pope, the PMOS replied that we were hoping before the Prime Minister left that he would have an opportunity to go to Rome to meet the Italian Prime Minister, not least in the run up to the EU treaty. If he was doing that, then he would obviously see the Pope as well, because of his interest in interfaith issues, particularly in the run up to the Islamic conference. No fixed date was in the diary, however. Briefing took place at 9:00 | Search for related news Original PMOS briefings are © Crown Copyright.
