Asked if the Prime Minister was in favour of getting rid of inheritance tax the PMS said that the Government had responded to the story in that inheritance tax is a fair and necessary means of raising revenue for public services, and affected only the top 6% of all estates. This is misleading because it does not make clear that IHT affects 6% of estates per year.
