Asked if the Prime Minister and Silvio Berlusconi had discussed David Mills, the Prime Minister’s Official Spokesman (PMOS) said that he was not aware of any discussions.

Tessa Jowell is quoted in today’s FT as having said …"It is not unusual; it is not improper and it is certainly not illegal." … ie. to raise a \xA3400,000 mortgage on one’s home to invest in whatever and then pay it back a month later.
Well, I take issue with the "not unusual". Most people would be delighted to:-

b).Be able to finance such a huge mortgage
c).Be over the moon to know of such an brilliant and secure investment opportunity to bet the house on.
d).Have the Lord Chancellor - call me Charlie - Lord Falconer express his confidence on air that she had done nothing wrong despite the fact that the legal niceties of the wider business are as yet unsettled and those closer to home are still to be looked into. I don’t suppose the Lord Chancellor’s opinions will sway anyone investigating the legalities and proprieties involved so I suppose it’s alright for the head of the judiciary to make such comments.
