		<description>Clarke's decision is based upon the potential political fall-out which could arise from going on his 'long planned family holiday'.  (As if the 'length' of planning made any difference......)

Make no mistake, as soon as he can decently walk away from the wreckage he'll be off like a young rocket.  It was the States this time wasn't it?  

Mind you, it all depends on the headlines.  It was a shame about the unfortunate Stockwell incident - but it'll be some time before the IPCC lets that one surface again. So once all the brouhaha has died down he can get away for a month or so, leaving the rest of us to try to go about our business as best we can and as instructed.  It's so good to hear these exhortations from inside the heavily fortified walls of the Home Office, Downing Street etc.  Nice to believe that the (New) toffs are still thinking of us.

No doubt Tone will have found someone to pick up the tab for his hols as usual.  Maybe Berlusconi again, or what about Ecclestone, Robinson, Mittal, etc etc.
