Every day the Prime Minister's Spokesman meets a small coterie of political journalists known as 'the lobby' for a topical chat, or 'briefing'.

Reading the comments of the last reader, I cannot help but see irrational paranoia leaking out of his comments.

His insistence that leaders of prominent Western nations are seeking to undermine and ultimately to act against Islam, as a whole, is a somewhat foolhardy and wholly naive view that only plays to put at risk diverse and liberal society. Conspiracy theories are damaging in the extreme, especially if heard by impressionable sorts; which we must not forget is the basis for terrorist recruitment.

To the issue at hand, the Muslim community in the UK, and world-wide, must inevitably play a vital role in discovering how this extremist element has arisen amongst it, and to ultimately seek some form of solution to the problem. However, it is undeniable that solidarity with other secular and faith based communities in the UK, and the work and support of the Government and national leaders, is the only way to truly ride our nation of this plague.

It is reflective of the international situation; all nations, culture and creeds must work together, in the spirit of moderation and tolerance, to find solutions to this problem. Whilst the Islamic community and nations are in an unparalleled position to perhaps understand and see where this is has come from, and with whom perhaps greatest development is required, moderates of all ilk's must come together to isolate and ultimately disenfranchise all extremist elements of Islam, and of other religions and cultures, to perhaps ride us of this curse.

"...if the terrorism continues, it will be the fault of the Muslim community..."

this is a superb example of the double-speak Bliar and Bush have used all along for their
War on Freedom
http://www.jk5.net/books.asp#WarOnFreedom

and their New World Tyranny
http://www.jk5.net/spages/NewWorldTyranny.asp

This is the same kind of double speak used by the war criminal Bush when he claims that the abhorrent suicide bombers in Israel are the "result of the Palestinian authorities failing to stop them".

This is NOT naive, contradictory drivel (as it sounds). This is a deliberate act of incitement to hate. Blair's words are carefully designed to establish a credential of reasonableness so than his (perhaps subliminal) messages of hate toward Muslims later sound reasonable.

Once again Bliar indulges Bush's hate war on Islam - in OUR name. Of course "this type of statement only serves to add fuel to the fire" - that is the INTENTION.

"The Prime Minister repeated his strong view that recent events should not in any way be used as an excuse for a backlash against Muslim communities."

And yet with his earlier comments that's pretty much what the PM is doing himself - singling out the Muslim community as one that needs to do more in the "War on Terra". Although how exactly one attempts to discourage this type of terrorism is beyond me; presumably it'll involve someone standing on a box shouting "don't blow yourself up"...

It would be much more beneficial to the world as a whole if the government, rather than wasting their time and ours with this kind of nonsense, put in some serious effort to look at root causes - eg; foreign policy, Iraq, our relationship with the USA, and immigration, to name but a few.

Did I get this right - so if the terrorism continues, it will be the fault of the Muslim community leaders for not being stringent enough in their castigation of morally wrong behaviour? And they will therefore deserve the "backlash" which the PM has sternly warned against? No doubt many will perceive this view as naive, but it seems to me that if the "community" is separated out like this in this statement, then that reflects a separatist state of mind at the highest level, surely?
Our local Muslim community has made heroic effort to condemn these events in every public place, as did the Irish community during the IRA bombfests... er, with little effect; human nature is naturally prejudiced and this type of statement only serves to add fuel to the fire.
