French Referendum

Asked if Jack Straw had been getting unduly involved in the French referendum on the EU constitution by expressing his wish that the French people voted yes, the Prime Minister’s Official Spokesman (PMOS), said that as a government we hoped that people across Europe supported the constitution because we supported it as well. That certainly did not constitute interference.

  1. Well now its Monday and the French voted NON

I actually read the constitution and how anyone could think that it was in the interests of the UK escapes me.

In 5 to 10 years time we would not have needed a government in Whitehall because all of the power would have resided elsewhere.

Oh! – maybe the Constitution would have been a good thing then – no MPs – food for thought 😉

  2. Just as long as the French have a clear understanding that our politicians’ pronouncements – as theirs – do not represent the views of the majority of citizens.

Mr Straw’s views are simply Mr Straw’s views. Whether one should pay attention to his comments is another matter altogether.

  3. Stupid question, anyway. I mean, as if the PMOS is going to say "you know what? I think you’re right, Jack Straw should wind his bloody neck in…" Please!
