» Monday, October 18, 2004PM Speech/Tomlinson Report
Asked about the Prime Minister’s speech to the CBI this evening, the Prime Minister’s Official Spokesman (PMOS) said that it would be about addressing the concerns of the CBI and others in terms of the importance of numeracy and literacy and improving basic skills. We also recognised the need to address the issue of vocational training and look at ways to differentiate between the bright and excellent pupils. That was why the Government welcomed the Tomlinson report today. We would obviously consider the report’s findings and publish a White Paper in due course. How come that at a time when A level results are improving year on year (and supposedly arent getting easier!), industry is concerned with the literacy, numeracy and basic skills of pupils…….
lets see an mp answer that one !
Comment by tony — 19 Oct 2004 on 11:20 pm | LinkWhy was the tomlinson report commissioned, and then disregarded, with Ruth kelly stating that her exam system would be staying, when others stated back in 2004, that the exm system was too stressful. The diploma system would work.
Why commision a report, and then ignore it? Maybe the Tomlinson report found some un-wanted truths?
