Asked to confirm the report in today’s Times suggesting that the CSR had been delayed, the PMOS said that as he had told journalists yesterday, a date had not yet been set for the CSR. Consequently, it could not be said that it had been delayed. Asked when it might take place, the PMOS said that he had no intention of getting drawn into a speculative discussion about dates. It would be when it would be. An announcement would be made in due course. Briefing took place at 11:00 | Search for related news Original PMOS briefings are © Crown Copyright. Comment by Roger Huffadine — 24 Jun 2004 on 9:25 am | Link"I told you yesterday that we will wait for the correct moment to spin this CSR to the media - it may be clouded by a serious issue or it may be used to cloud a serious issue. You can be sure that if you see any dark clouds on the political horizon we will talk to you about the CSR"
Or alternatively…
While we are making speeches about improving public services we don’t want to publish the CSR which will show that we are cutting all the budgets for public services. We will wait until you have forgotten about these speeches and then publish the CSR under the banner of ‘improving efficiency in the public sector’.
