Asked why David Blunkett had made an announcement in the Commons today in place of Beverley Hughes, the PMOS said he did not know but he would not interpret any significance into that whatsoever. Asked if the Prime Minister thought that the Immigration Minister was doing a good job, the PMOS said yes. The Prime Minister thinks that she is a first class Minister, handling an extremely difficult brief very well as evidenced by the significant fall in asylum applications in the last year.
