PM Speech

Asked about the Prime Minister’s speech tomorrow, the Prime Minister’s Official Spokesman (PMOS) said that it would be a rounded speech dealing with Iraq, WMD proliferation and international security issues. Asked the purpose of the speech, the PMOS said that there had been a lot of focus on all these issues in recent months, not just in relation to Iraq, but in a wider context as well. Tomorrow’s speech would provide an opportunity to bring some of these strands together.

It’s a masterpiece of juxtaposition — Blair talks about terrorism, then about Iraq, then about North Korea. He implies that there’s a connection between Iraq and terrorism, but obviously can’t describe such a link since no evidence has been found. Instead he uses the notion of "WMD" (a fairly meaningless term, and anyway no chemical or biological weapons have been found in Iraq and certainly nobody thought they had nuclear weapons) to link the various things together. Too me it seems a fairly poor effort.
